LESSON NINE:
RENDERING THE RIGHT KIND OF SERVICE AS A WORKER II (Rom.12v11: 1Cor.14v40)

INTRODUCTION

Last week we started our discussion on the kind of Service we ought to render as a Worker/Volunteer in this house. It’s not just important to serve but we need to serve in the right manner. 1Chro.15v13: Num.7v9: 2Sam.6v13.

We have examined so far 4 ways by which we ought to serve, namely:
1. Efficient Service (2Ki.14v13: Rom.12v16)
2. Effective Service (Jn.15v2,4-5: Acts11v24)
3. Exceptional Service (Phil.2v19-22,25-30)
4. Extravagant Service (2Cor.12v15: Acts15v26)

However our focus in today’s training is to look at 3 more ways in which we ought to serve.

A. HOW WE OUGHT TO SERVE GOD

5. Excellent Service. This kind of service is based on giving your Best and constantly improving the quality of your Service. Dan.6v1-4: Jer.48v10. Make Excellence your Watchword. Be an Excellent Worker (1Ki.7v13-14: 2Chro.2v13-14: Pro31v20, 29: 1Cor.14v12: Acts18v24-28).

In what ways can you render an Excellent Service?
– Insist on Excellence no matter what (Dan.1v8, 20:6v3: 1Chro.21v24:22v5).
– Give Attention to details (1Cor.14v40:1Chro15v13).
– Be a Competent Worker. Competence is the ability to do something well. Measured against a standard, especially ability acquired through Experience or training e.g. Timothy (Phil.2v20: 1Cor.16v10: Paul (1Cor.15v10: Phil.4v13).
– Constantly strive to be better at what you are doing (Pro.31v29) How? Constantly ask yourself this critical question: How can I be better tomorrow than I did today?
(Matt.7v7-11).
– Constantly challenge the Status Quo. Be open to new Ideas/Inspiration (Gal.5v7) etc.

6. Empathetic Service. This kind of service is based on serving with a human face i.e. Merciful/Compassionate disposition. We ought to serve in such a way that will make us connect with the hearts of the people and also identify with their needs (Matt.9v36: 14v14: Mk.6v36: Acts10v38: Heb.4v15:2v18: Lk.10v30- 7: Acts15v36:9v36-42: (Tabitha or Dorcas).

In what ways can we minister out of our hearts?
– Be other people Minded. Avoid self-centeredness (1Cor.10v24-31: Phil.2v4: Rom.15v1-2: 1Cor.13v5: Phil.2v20-21).
– Serve with a Servant’s Attitude (Jn.13v4-15: Matt.20v26-28).
– Be driven/motivated by “Agape” Love (Rom.5v5: 1Cor.16v14: Matt.15v32) etc.

7. Empowered Service. This kind of service is based on God enabling and empowering you to serve. You cannot do God’s work without God’s help (Jn.15v5). Apostle Paul (1Cor.15v10: 2Cor.3v5-6:12v9: Phil.4v13): Ps.68v35: Isa.40v29-31: Ps.44v6, 8).

In what ways can we render a Service that is Empowered by Him?
– Always Depend/Learn on his Power at all times for Service in his Kingdom (Exo.33v14- 15: Jn.15v5: Ps.127v1-2: 2Chro.26v5, 16).
– Cultivate the habit of waiting on God (Isa.40v29-31: Ps.27v14: Lk.1v80).
– Walk/Associate with Highly Anointed People. Walk with people with a higher Level of Grace (Jer.12v5: Pro.13v20: 2Ki.2v15:3v11: Deut.34v9: 1Tim.4v15) etc.
