LESSON ONE:

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A WORKER? (2Cor.6v1: Rom.16v21)

INTRODUCTION


It’s very important to understand what it means to be a Worker in the Vineyard of the Lord and that’s what this training is all about (Ps.119v18, 125). In order for our service to be right, acceptable and beneficial, we need to know who really is a Worker (Rom.16v21: 1Thes.3v2: Col.4v11).


DESCRIPTION(S) OF A TRUE WORKER

A. A true Worker can be described as follows:


1. A Labourer (Rom.16v21: Matt.10v10). A Worker is a toiler or a workman (Matt.9v37-38, 2Cor.6v1: Rom.16v6 (Mary), v12 (Tryphena/Tryphosa, Persis), 1Tim.5v17: Col.4v12 (Epaphras): 2Tim.2v6).


2. Someone who is willing to SERVE and not wanting to be served
(Matt.20v28). A Worker is a SERVER Rom.16v1 (Phoebe): Philip.2v25, 30 (Epaphroditus), 19-22 (Timothy).


3. Someone who is willing to SACRIFICE for the Work. A Worker is ready to spend and be spent for the gospel sake (2Cor.12v15: 1Cor.15v10: Col.1v29 (Paul): Rom.16v3-4 (Priscilla/Aquila): Acts4v31-37 (Barnabas).


4. Someone who is willing/eager to Work. They don’t have to be forced or coarsed to work. They are excited/ready to work (Num.13v30 (Caleb): Neh.3v5: 1Cor.4v12: 2Cor.8v3, 12: Exo.25v2: 2Cor.9v7).


5. Someone who is available for the Work. They are available for use and to be sent by God. Isa.6v8: Col.4v7-8 (Tychicus): 1Thes.3v1-2 (Timothy): 2Tim.4v11.


6. Someone who readily gets the job done and not fond of making Excuses. They deliver the desired Results and not just mere Talkers. Acts8v5-8: 6v5 (Philip): 1Cor.15v10: 2Cor.12v12 (Paul): Acts18v24-28 (Apollos).


7. Someone who can work accordingly to the pattern/blueprint handed down to them. They can work according to the prescribed instructions (1Kin.7v14: Exo.31v3, 5: Tit.1v5: 1Cor.3v10: Ex.25v9, 40).


8. Someone who is willing to do the Will of his Master and not serve his/her own interest/purpose (Jn.6v38:4v34: Acts5v29:26v19: Matt.21v28-31: Lk.9v57-62).


9. A Soldier. Someone who has been enlisted in the Army of the Lord. 2Tim.2v3-4:4v5: Jer.51v20: Phil.2v25 (Epaphroditus): Philem.v2 (Archippus). As a soldier, you are supposed to be a Fighter/Warrior. 1Cor.15v32.

10. A Steward (1Cor.4v1-2). A steward is someone who manages the domestic affairs of a family or a minor, a treasurer, a chamberlain of a city (1Pet.4v10: Matt.25v14,21,23: Lk.12v42). What kind of steward are you? What has been committed into your hands/trust? (2Tim.1v14).

11. Someone who is working for the good of the Kingdom. They are Kingdom builders and Advancers (Matt.16v18: 1Thes.3v10: Col.4v12: Phil.4v15-16: Acts4v36-37).

12. An Athlete. Someone who has been entered into the race of Life to compete for Laurels for the Kingdom (1Cor.9v24-27: Phil.3v13-14: 2Tim.4v6-8). You are competing against Satan, the World system etc. to win Medals for the Kingdom (Eph.6v12).
