Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Dearly Beloved, your personal devotion with God is of great importance and its one of the things that you really need to treasure and guard jealously. This is why you need to know how to cultivate a strong and healthy relationship with God. It’s not just important for you to have a relationship with God but you also need to have fellowship with God. As busy as Jesus was, he still had time with God. Therefore, you and I have no excuse for not having a virile devotional life. In our last lesson, I shared with you some things that can help you have a strong devotional life with God. Today by his Grace, I will share five more important principles that can guide one along this line.
HOW TO GO ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL DEVOTION?
3. Find the right place for it. This is evident in the life of Jesus Christ, our perfect example. You will notice in Mark1verse35 that he went to a solitary place to commune with God. The Place matters a lot. In fact, this is why Jesus went to the mountains or wilderness to spend time with God. Its essentially because of the choice of the place where he would have his alone time with his father. Lk5v16
4. Eliminate all forms of distractions or disturbance. This is another important thing you need to consider when you choose the place you will spend time with God. This is primarily the same reason why Jesus went to quiet places or places where he could not be disturbed. So my dear reader, as much as possible, you need to deal with such kinds of things if you want to have a splendid devotional time. Lk9v62: Ps46v10
5. Spend time in the Word, Worship and Prayers. This is another important part of your devotion that you need to pay attention to. Any genuine devotion with God should include the time of worship, prayers and meditation in God’s word. It’s important for you to make out time for this in your devotion. Spend time praying, worshipping God and even studying his Word. There are so many ways of going about this, but whatever method you use, make sure there are times of worship, prayers, and meditation in the Word. These exercises are the tools and avenues by which God speaks to you, so make sure you have time for such. Matt4 4: Jn5v39
6. Reflect on the lessons learnt from your devotion. Ideally as you spend time with God in worship, word and prayers, He will definitely speak to you. There are messages, insights and revelations that will come your way as you fellowship with the Lord. You need to give time to reflect on these truths as you endeavor to imbibe the truths learnt or gleaned into your life. This is an important thing you need to do in your devotion. Ps19v14
7. Write down whatever the Lord says or speaks to you. This is why you need to have a journal where you document your dealings and walk with the Lord in. So my dear brothers and sisters, make sure you keep records of the things you have learnt, or youre learning in your devotion with God by writing them down; this makes it easy to remember any time you go through your journal. Don’t just be a hearer but also a Doer. Hab2v2.
My dear friends, I hope you have been able to receive wisdom and understanding as to how to go about your personal devotion with God? I pray that your walk with God will keep getting better in Jesus name.
