Gen. 39 v 1-6: Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelite’s who had taken him down there. The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favour in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had, he put under his authority. So it was from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. Thus, he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

There is nothing that compares to the presence of the Lord. This is why you need to cherish his presence in your life as a believer. The presence of the Lord is your most treasured possession. This is why you need to know how to walk in his presence because there are many things this will do for you and through you. The benefits and advantages of knowing his presence are something one cannot deny, as you can see in the life of Joseph in Egypt. In the same vein, God’s presence is supposed to make all the difference in your life. So what are the other tangible blessings of God’s presence? In today’s lesson, I will be sharing three of such benefits with us, so here we go.

THE PRIVILEGES OF GOD’S PRESENCE:

  1. The Blessings of Divine Rest. The presence of the Lord guarantees you His peace and tranquillity. Peace is not the absence of danger but the presence of the Lord in the midst of danger or trouble. So having God’s presence with you gives you rest on every side. Therefore, you have no reason to fret or to worry, for in his presence there are comfort and quietness. This was the experience of Joseph everywhere he went; he enjoys divine rest. This also ought to be your portion too because you are a bonafide child of God. My dear reader, no matter the turbulence or trouble in the World, his presence will give you rest. So cheer up, for you are not alone! (2Chro. 14 v 7; Exo. 33 v 14-15).
  2. The Blessings of Divine Favour. This is another powerful benefit of his presence in our lives. A man or woman that the Lord is with finds favour wherever they are or go to. Such was the experience of covenant people like David, Hezekiah, Solomon and even Joseph, as we can see in Gen. 39 v 2-6. Disgrace is far from those who carry his presence. So, therefore, misfortune and disfavour is not your heritage as someone who knows the presence of God. The same God that favoured Daniel and Esther is still very much at work and alive. Expect him to favour you too because you carry his presence. This is why I see God giving you what you don’t deserve. I see him giving you special consideration and preferential treatment anywhere you go because God’s presence is your heritage (Gen. 41 v 38-44).
  3. The Blessings of Divine Joy. The presence of the Lord secures and guarantees your joy. it also preserves your joy. This is why you cannot afford to do without his presence. His presence is our source of joy and gladness in this troubled and afflicted World. There are so many things that threaten and attack our joy, and this is why you need to be conscious of God’s presence so that you might not lose your joy.

Precious child of God, this is why you need to walk in his presence every day of your life, so as to sustain your joy no matter what. Doing this will renew your strength, health and victory, too (Rom. 14 v 17). it’s time for you to begin to walk in the fullness of his joy as you walk in his presence.
