1Pet.2v1-2: Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking. As newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.
Spiritual Growth is not by accident or coincidence. It is neither a matter of luck or chance but it’s something that takes place as a result of engaging certain tools and principles. So if you really want to grow spiritually, you need to pay attention to the tools that can aid spiritual growth. As you can also see from our text scripture (1Pet.2v1-2) that you have a part to play in achieving spiritual growth (i.e. there are things you need to do without and there are things you need to embrace). Are you ready to do the things that will promote your spiritual growth? I believe you are willing and ready, so without much ado, let’s examine today one of the major tools for spiritual growth.
INSTRUMENTS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH:
- THE WORD OF GOD. The Word of God is a major tool for Spiritual Growth. Without the Word of God, spiritual growth will be impossible. This is why the Word of God is likening to food. What kind of food is it? It’s food for your spirit, soul and body. It’s food for the total man (Jer.15v16). The Word of God nourishes, satisfies, edifies, renews, restores and ever corrects. It’s a complete kind of food that contains everything you need to grow and develop. This is why you need to feed on the Word of God regularly, consistently, extensively and excessively in order to grow spiritually (Eze.3v1-3)
This food called the Word of God exists in:
- Milk form (1Pet.2v2).
- And solid form (Heb.5v14). But it’s all designed and meant for your spiritual nourishment and enjoyment. So it’s time to go after his word (Matt.4v4).
There are ways of feeding on the word, Precious child of God, if you really want to grow, and I will like to share these ways with you right away. You can feed on his word by:
- Reading the Word of God. Reading the Scriptures should be part of your daily spiritual exercises if you want to grow! (1Tim.4v13; Isa.34v16).
- Studying the Word of God. While it is good to read the Word, you need to also study the Word. Studying is much deeper. It means to search, scrutinize, investigate, ask questions, or examine. This will help you to understand the word better (Jn.5v30; Acts 17v11).
- Meditating on the Word of God. To meditate is to ponder, imagine or speak. Ruminating extensively on the Word is one of the best ways to feed on the Word you need to employ if you really want to grow spiritually (Jos.1v8; Ps.119v148).
- Speaking the Word of God. There is power in speaking the Word of God and it’s a spiritual exercise that you need to inculcate in your daily walk with God in order to grow (Isa.34v16).
- Acting on the Word of God. Putting the word to practice will help you to grow and gain wisdom for a supernatural living (Matt.7v24-27).
My dear reader, are you ready to take action on these spiritual exercises? Doing so will launch you into the world of spiritual growth and progress. I pray that this will be a living reality in your life in Jesus name, amen.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I commit myself to regularly feeding on the Word of God for my daily spiritual nourishment and growth in Jesus name, amen.
CONFESSION: The Word of God is food for my total being. Therefore, I embrace the word fully. I choose to read, study, meditate, speak and act on the word regularly. As I embrace and act on the truths of his Word, my life is changing from glory to glory. I am changing from inside to the outside. I am conforming to the image of Christ in me. I am blossoming and flourishing spiritually in Jesus name, amen.
