Philip.2verse12: “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
Basically, you can know whether someone is genuine as per his obedience or not. This is what this series of lessons is all about. As you can also see from the testimony of Apostle Paul concerning the Philippian Believers, they were sincere in their obedience. In the same way, you can know whether you are obeying God or not. So what are things to watch out for? What are the indicators of a Truly Obedient Child of God?
INDICATORS OF GENUINE OBEDIENCE:
3. Willingness to do whatsoever God says Do. This is one of the distinguishing attributes of an Obedient Child of God. They are ever willing or ready to go anywhere God ask them to go. This is quite a huge responsibility but this is what it takes in obeying God. Are you this kind of person? Do you do whatsoever he asks you to do or do you do what pleases you only? (Jn.2v5). It’s time to come up to a higher place of obedience. It’s time to follow in the footsteps of Father Abraham and the woman with the alabaster box of oil (Mk.14v3-9). They were not afraid of doing his counsel, no matter how weird or unreasonable it looks like. They feared God above:
- Man or People (Jn.13v43-44).
- Traditions/Customs.
- Religion or Institution (Mk.7v7).
This is the kind of obedience that God wants to emulate. It’s time to leave the realm of pleasing men or yourself. When you make the paradigm shift, you can be referred to as a True and Obedient Child of God. May this be your testimony.
4. Willingness to do all that God says do. This has to do with obeying God completely or to the letter. It also means not omitting or adding anything to what he asked you to do. When you practice this kind of obedience, it will be said of you that you truly obey his voice. My dearly beloved ones, true Obedience is obeying God completely or fully. Are you ready to hearken to all his instructions and commands? (Deut.28v1-2)
5. Willingness to obey God quickly. When you obey God without any delay, hesitations or excuses. It will be said that you are truly an obedient child of God. God cannot be kept waiting, So the quicker you obey God, the better for you. Make up your mind that you will always move in swift response to whatsoever God says. Emulate the likes of Joshua and Caleb. They did not delay nor hesitate in their obedience. This is how you ought to obey God. So what are you waiting for! Make up your mind from today that you will be prompt and diligent in obeying God without any delay (Isa.6v8; Matt.9v9).
I pray that you will enter a new season of obedience. May this be your testimony.
