Rom.8v14-16: For as many as are led by the spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father”. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

We cannot overemphasize the significance of hearing from God in our lives and endeavours in general, and most especially as believers. First, you need to know how to hear from God as his child. Second, you need to know how to hear from God for yourself. It is a crucial factor in the life of any serious-minded believer, and in this series, I will be sharing with you reasons why you need to know how to hear from God. As our text in (Rom.8v14-16) clearly illustrates, the Holy Spirit is in the business of guiding God’s children. He does this by bearing witness with our spirit and leading or guiding us in the way we ought to go. So one thing is clear and sure, God does not want you to walk in the dark but the light of God (Ps.32v8).

So as a child of God, why is it that important and crucial for you to know how to hear God? What is the significance of being led by God? This is what I intend to share with you in this series of teachings, so without much ado, let’s examine these reasons right away.

WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO HEAR FROM GOD

1. To make your journey through this life easier and smoother. The truth of the matter is that God did not make man live all by himself. Man was designed to be led or assisted by God. Therefore, you need God’s help in order to go through this life as you cannot go through this World all by yourself. So if you don’t want to be stranded and if you want to have a glorious encounter in the journey of life, you need to know how to hear from God (Pro.20v24).
2. So that you will be able to make the right decisions in life. At times, the reason for making the wrong choice or moves is because of the inability to hear from God. There are many devices in a man’s heart. However, it’s God’s counsel that will stand. And decisions determine destiny and the direction in which your life will go. So if you want to succeed in making the right decisions maritally, spiritually, professionally, financially, academically etc., you need to know how to hear from God. This is such an invaluable treasure that will serve you very well in this life. So it’s time to grow up (Dan.2v16).
3. So that you will not be led astray. There are many voices today in the world, i.e. the voice of your flesh, the voice of Satan, the voice of men, the voice of God etc. This is why you need divine guidance in your life in order not to be led astray. At times, there is a thin line of difference between truth and error. This is why you need to develop your capacity to hear God. Your heavenly Father never wants you to walk in the dark. That is why he has equipped you with his spirit so that you can walk in his light. So it’s time to rise above every cloud of darkness. It’s time for you to walk in the light of God (1Cor.14v10). I see you entering into a new dimension of grace in your walk with the Lord.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank you for opening my eyes and ears of understanding to discern you clearly without any doubt and ambiguity in Jesus name, amen.

CONFESSION: Hearing from God is my heritage and portion as I have been equipped to hear God. I have what it takes to hear God. My eyes are open, and my ears are receptive to the voice of God. I do not walk in the dark but in his light. I can discern his voice because I am born of God. Glory be to God, for my spirit man is alive to God and to his leading. Hallelujah for my days of walking in the dark are over in Jesus name, amen.
