The Purpose of Sex 1

Genesis4verse1 ‘And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord’

Sex has a divine purpose because we understand that everything God made has its own purpose. Pro16v4. So what is the reason behind sex? We will consider these things today in our discussion by his grace. The word “purpose” is very interesting and simply means intention, design or the reason something was created. So what did God have in mind? What was sex supposed to achieve?
I am sure you are ready for this, so without much ado, let’s examine the purpose of sex!

1. To hallow or fulfil the sexual desires and instincts in a man and woman under marriage. Yes, this is one of the primary objectives of sex; since God made man with sexual instincts and desires, it’s only logical also to create a channel through which it can be fulfilled. I want you to know also that the place he expects this experience is in marriage. As you can also see from our text scripture (Genesis 4verse1), Adam knew his wife. The word “knew’ here means to be acquainted with a woman in a sexual way or sexual intercourse. And you also need to remember that Eve was married to Adam, thus giving them the right to fulfil their sexual desires. So God expects our sexual desires to be fulfilled under the institution of marriage.

2. For the purpose of marriage. Yes, this is another important reason why God made sex. Sex is reserved exclusively for marriage. Nothing more, nothing less! It’s sad to note that this is not how the world looks at sex. In today’s world, sex has been reduced below the standards of God. But you need to know, precious child of God, that the reason God made sex is solely for marriage. This is why even when you look at the beginning, marriage came first before sex (this is the divine order in the book of Genesis). Gen2v18,24-25. So, my dear brothers and sisters, the purpose of sex is not to sleep with everybody or anybody but with the person you are married to. God obviously knows what he is doing by setting this precedence in place! This is why he wants you to avoid premarital or extramarital affairs. Heb13v4

So it’s time to return to the truths of creating sex. I know there have been a lot of distortions about our sexuality; this is why God’s word is coming your way today! And if you will embrace these truths, you will be liberated and set free! I believe today is your day of deliverance and liberty! If you believe this, say a Big AMEN.
