Jam.5v16-18: Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

There is no doubt that there is power in prayer but it’s also important to know the kind of prayer that is powerful. According to (Jam.5v16-18), we know that the prayer that will be powerful is the one that is effectual fervent. This word effectual fervent in Greek means active, efficient or operative. This is the kind of prayer that Elijah prayed and it’s a classic example of prevailing prayer. This is the kind of prayer that is powerful and this is what we ought to pray if we want results in our prayer life. It’s time to prevail in the place of prayers (Lk.18v1).

Do you know that there is something unique about the prevailing power of prayer? What makes this kind of prayer special? It is for the following reasons:

  1. It is the prayer that changes people. Yes, believe me, this kind of prayer will change your life for the better and forever. It is important for you to know that prayer does not change God but prayer changes those who are fully given to it. I don’t know about you but prayer has changed my life and also continues to change my life. Even our Lord and Saviour was transformed as a result of the prevailing power of prayer (Lk.9v29). My dear reader, it’s time for your own blessed encounter in the place of prayer.
  2. It is the prayer that changes things. Yes, this kind of prayer has the power to change situations and circumstances for good. This is what we see in the life of Elijah in (Jam.5v16-18). Through his prayers, the windows of heaven were shut for 31/2 years. And by the same power of prayer, the same windows of heaven that were shut were opened again. This is the prevailing power of prayer at work and this same power can also work in your circumstances if your prayer is operative and active, for God is no respecter of persons. Will you engage the power of prevailing prayers today? I declare that as you deploy the weapon of prayer today, the circumstances of life are changing for your good.
