Gen.11v1-6: Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly”. They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth”. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the son’s men had built. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

According to an African Proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go farther, go together”. As you can see that this proverb extols the power of Teamwork. And this is what we have been talking about. You need the power of Teamwork in your life because there is a limit to what you alone can do. This is why you need to know how to walk successfully with others. This is a major secret of success that you need to master. So how would you rate yourself when it comes to working together with others? From our text in (Genesis 11 verses 1-6), you can see the power of teamwork in manifestation. Impossibility is nothing when we know how to work together as a team. You, too, can leverage this power in your business, Family, and personal life! However, there are certain basic principles that you need to be aware of if you will successfully tap into the power of Teamwork. I shared 3 of such principles with you in our last Lesson. Today by the special grace of God, I will be sharing four other truths with you. So if you are ready, here we go!

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF TEAMWORK:

4. The strength of the Team is in its individual members. A team is as strong as its members. In fact, it’s the kind of members that are in a team that determines how strong a team is. This is why you need to recruit well your team members. You see this principle at work in the Team of King David. He had a very strong team and this was because of the strengths of each member of the team (2Sam.23v8-39). In fact, the stronger the members, the stronger the Team. The weaker the Team members, the Weaker the Team. This is why it’s often said that “A team is as strong as its weakest link’. So make sure you carefully select members of your team.

5. Every Member of a Team has specific and important roles to play. There is nothing like being part of any team and not having specific responsibilities to play in that team. This is one of the basic principles of Teamwork that you need to understand also. You are not just called to belong but to also play your roles. It’s just like the ants in their colony. Every ant has specific roles to play. It’s either you are the queen, worker, etc. This is why knowing your responsibilities is extremely important if you will really function properly in any team (1Cor.12v14-19).

6. Working with others increases your chances of great success. So to accomplish Great things, you need to know how to work with others. This is what the First Man on Mount Everest did. Edmund Hilary and Norgay Tenzing and their other team members leveraged the power of Teamwork. Hence, the reason for their Outstanding Performance. The same can be said of you too when you know how to work with others (Eccle.4v9). So it’s time for you to develop your ability to work with others.

7. It takes a special kind of Wisdom and Grace to work with other people. What this simply means is that it takes a special ability to relate with all kinds of people. This is why some people find it difficult to work with some kind of people. And this is also the reason why some people are very successful in working with other people. This is why you need to be able to relate to all kinds of people. In life, generally, you will meet with the good, bad, and ugly, but you need to deal with your ego and preferences to succeed in working with others. This is why you need God’s grace and wisdom in dealing effectively with others if you will successfully build teams that will matter (2Sam.3v39). And guess what? The grace of God is always available, so are you willing to cooperate and walk with God? I pray for you today that you will embrace God’s grace and mercy that would make you a better manager of Men in Jesus name, amen.
