Genesis 12 verse 1-4 (NKJV):  Now the Lord had said to Abram:”Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Obedience is much more powerful than we think. It’s an awesome power at the disposal of a believer. This is why we need to know how to maximize this power to our advantage. From the example of Father Abraham, we have seen what it means to obey God. This should, however, serve as an encouragement to us all. My focus on today’s lesson will be on How to obey God? How are we to obey God? This is a very important question that needs to be addressed if the power of obedience will work for you. What does Obeying God imply?

HOW TO OBEY GOD?

1. By Obeying His Word.

This is how to obey the Lord. No man can say he is obedient to God without obeying his Word. In fact, it is right to say that obeying God means obeying his word. So, my dear friends, Are you obedient to his Word? Those who keep his commandments are those who obey him. Pro 13 v 13: Exo 19 v 5

2. By Obeying His Spirit.

Another way you obey God is by following the leading or voice of God. When you hearken to his voice, you are obeying God! Do you obey the instructions of the Spirit? Rom 8 v 14: Ps 95 v 7 – 8. The answer you give to this question will tell whether you are obeying God or not. While it’s okay to obey the Spirit, it’s important to also note that whatever the Spirit says to you won’t be contrary to God’s word.

3. By Obeying Spiritual Authority.

When you obey constituted authorities over you (i.e., Church, Government, Family), it’s a sign of obeying God. Since God is the author of such authorities, obedience to them is obedience to God Rom 13 v 1,7. So how submissive are you to constituted authorities?

Dearly Beloved, I believe you can see from what I have shared with you today that God has not left us in the dark as to how to Obey him. Join me once again in our next lesson to continue this series.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to obey you the way you ought to be obeyed in Jesus name, amen.

CONFESSION: I choose to honor God the way he wants to be honored. Obeying God is my heart’s desire. I long to do his will with all of my heart and as I take pleasure in obeying God, my life is changing from glory to glory!
