Deut.8v18: And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
There are different kinds of empowerment i.e. spiritual, academic, physical, etc. But the focus of our series of discussions will be on economic improvement. You and I need to be economically empowered. From (Deut.8v18), it is very clear that God wants you to be economically empowered as he specialized in giving you power or the ability to get wealth. If you notice, he gives you the ability (wisdom, ideas, skills, insights, etc.) to get wealth (Pro.10v22).
To be economically empowered means to be financially stable and independent or the creation, management, and distribution of wealth. God is not just interested in you getting a job but also in how you can make, manage and multiply wealth. It’s one thing to have a job; it’s another thing to be an employer of labour. This is the level God wants you to operate on.
So why the need to be economically empowered? Why do you need economic empowerment in your life? These are things that this series of teachings is going to address by the grace of Jesus Christ. So if you are ready for this, off we go!
REASONS FOR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT:
- Because the Almighty God wants you to be economically empowered. Economic empowerment is part of God’s will for your life. it’s part and parcel of what the covenant wants you to have. If you look at the lives of covenant people like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the rest of them, you will see this dimension of economic empowerment for those who appropriated it (Gen.24v1, 35: 26v12-14, 16, 28, 29). God is still God! He has not changed what he did before he will do, and in fact, he will do it again in your life. If you will only embrace and receive it. So are you ready to be empowered economically?
- To fulfil God’s original intention of making man financially free, independent and stable. This is clearly evident in the beginning when God made Adam, He did not give him money, but he rather equipped him with what he needs. Man initially was an entrepreneur (i.e. a business person or tycoon or magnate). As an entrepreneur, he was a risk-taking business person, i.e. someone who initiates or finances new commercial enterprises. Man was supposed to be a creator and not a copycat, i.e. an inventor and not a maintenance officer. He was designed to make things happen and not just watch what is happening (Gen.2v19-20). This was how the early man lived, i.e. as a change agent or initiator until the world system came in. And this has almost destroyed the natural instinct of man as an entrepreneur. But thanks be to God for sending Jesus Christ to restore us to our original position of honour and repute. So it’s time to awaken the sleeping giant of creativity and innovation in you.
