The Marks of A True Disciple 2

Matthew 4 verse19-20. ‘vs19 and saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Vs20 and they straightaway left their nets and followed him’

How can you recognize a sincere or genuine disciple of Jesus? There are ways of knowing whether someone is a true disciple or not. This is what these series of teachings is all about and I trust that you will be greatly blessed. As you can see from our text scripture (Matt4v19-20), it’s evident that Jesus only choose 4 people from the sea shore of Galilee on this faithful day despite the fact that there were several other people there. So, what qualifies someone as a disciple of Jesus Christ and what are some of the signs or Indicators of a True Disciple? These are the things I will be sharing with you in this lesson today and without much ado, let’s examine them right away.

INDICATORS OF A TRUE DISCIPLE:

1.They have a personal and genuine relationship with Jesus. This is a critical factor in becoming a disciple, without being genuinely born again, you cannot be a sincere follower of Christ. So, are you his child in spirit and in truth? Jn3v3,5

2. They truly obey and submit to God. They take delight in Obeying his will for their lives, this is how you know a true disciple of Christ. Obeying and honoring God in their lives is never a struggle but with joy and delight. Eph5v21

3. They are Teachable. They are willing and humble to learn. They are not proud or arrogant in nature. They are ready to learn, unlearn and relearn. This is an important quality of being a disciple because a true disciple is a Learner, pupil or student. So, my dear reader, how willing are you to learn or be corrected? 1Pet5v10: Pro29v1

4.They passionately Love Jesus. They are in love with the Master. They sincerely love God, his house, his people and even the things of God. This is how you know a genuine disciple of Jesus. Their Love of or for God is undeniable and unquestionable. Deut6v4-6. My dear brothers and sisters, how would you describe your love and affection for God?

My Dearly Beloved Ones, these are just some of the attributes of a true follower of Jesus. How would you rate yourself with regards to these qualities? It’s time to draw near to God. It’s time for a closer walk with the Master. May Today usher you into a better walk with the Lord.
