Jude 1 v 20: But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

Why is it important for you to pray in tongues as a believer? Is there any significance of praying in tongues? The answer is YES. There are many reasons why you pray in tongues regularly as a child of God. This is going to be the focus of our discussion in this series on praying in tongues. What does it mean to pray in tongues? It means to pray in the Spirit or in an unknown tongue. It is to pray in an unknown tongue as enabled or inspired by the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is a supernatural utterance given to you by the Holy Spirit. This is what the writer of the book of Jude means by praying in the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost. And you can see from Jude 1 v 20 that it certainly has an advantage. This is why you need to develop yourself as a believer in the dimension of praying in tongues (Acts 2 v 4). So why should you pray in tongues?

REASONS FOR PRAYING IN TONGUES:

  1. For your personal edification. When you pray or speak in tongues, you are actually building up or developing yourself spiritually. The word builds up in Jude 1 v 20 means to build upon or to rear up. Speaking or praying in tongues helps you develop your spiritual life, thus bringing about meaningful growth and progress in your walk with God. So, my dear reader, it is time to build up yourself. You need to be consistently edified. Doing this will greatly benefit and improve your spiritual development. So why not begin today? You will see this same truth communicated in (1Cor. 14 v 4) by Apostle Paul; check out the following translations of this scripture:

“He who speaks in a strange tongue edifies and improves himself”– Amplified Version.

“The one who prays using a private prayer language certainly gets a lot out of it”– Message Bible.

“Those who speak in strange tongue help only themselves”– God’s Words.

Therefore, I encourage you, precious child of God, to begin to invest into your Spiritual life by praying in tongues.

2. Because it’s an exclusive and private means of communicating with God. This is one of the huge benefits of speaking or praying in tongues. It gives you exclusive and direct access to heaven and to God himself. Glory be to God; you don’t need to go through an intermediary or middle man. So next time you speak or pray in tongues, know that you are speaking directly to God and no one, not even Satan, knows what you are saying or doing. Blessed be God, for you can speak in a coded language to your heavenly father. So my dear reader, do not allow this opportunity to pass you by. Start and also continue to pray in tongues from henceforth and watch to see the transformation in your life (1Cor. 14 v 2).
