Joshua 1 verse 8: ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’
You are welcome back to this interesting series on how to study the Bible. And our focus in today’s lesson will be on the different ways or approach of studying the Bible. As the saying goes “Variety is the spice of life.” There are quite a lot of ways or means of studying the Bible and the interesting thing about this is that:
- It gives us various options as to how to study the Bible.
- It makes Bible study interesting and not boring in nature.
- It helps us to see the word of Bible from different angles.
- It enhances our whole experience of Bible study.
This is why it’s good for you as a believer to know the different styles or methods of studying your Bible.
So without much ado let’s examine this diverse means of Bible Study.
TYPES OF BIBLE STUDY:
- Word Study. This type of study involves taking a (key) word and studying it or building your study around it. For example, you can decide to study the word “power” in Eph3v20 or the word “grace” in 1Cor15v10. This is what this type of study is all about and it is worth practicing.
- Phrase Study. This form of study involves taking certain phrases in the Bible and studying it in details. Some examples of these are the following; Crucified with Christ, Christ liveth in me, who loved me, gave himself for me in Gal2v20. If you observe you can pick out other phrases in this verse of study. This type of study is another interesting way of studying the Bible which will ultimately enrich your life.
A phrase is a group of words that functions as a unit but lacks a subject or predicate and cannot stand alone as a complete sentence.
- Sentence Study. This type of study is when you decide to study in details certain sentence(s) in the Bible. For example, if we consider 2Cor12v9; You can decide to study either “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee or For my strength is made perfect is weakness” etc. This type of studying the Bible also comes with its own advantages. This is why you need to also try it out this form of Bible study.
- Verse Study: This type of study is when you decide to study certain verse(s) of the scriptures in details. For instance, you could decide to study the following verses of the Bible. Eph4v24; Rom12v2; Jn3v16. My dear friends this type of Bible study also has its own benefit and I will strongly advice that you try it out also and see the blessings therein.
- Characters or Name Study: This type of study is when you choose to study certain Bible Characters or names in details. This kind of study can be quite interesting and impactful. For example, you can decide to study Bible characters like Moses, Enoch, Adam, Joshua, Caleb, Satan, Jesus, Holy Spirit etc. My dear friends, I am sure there are other characters that you would love to study too.
- Passage Study. This dimension of Bible study has to do with studying certain passages of the Bible in details. For example, you can study the following passages in the Bible: The Rich Fool (LK12V13-21); Good Samaritan (LK10V25-37); The Rich Man and Lazarus (Lk12v19-31). There are just a few examples but I am sure there are other passages you would love to study. And this is the perfect time for you to do so. So go for it!
