Amos 3v3: Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
Marriage is challenging, and it’s a full-time job. This is why it takes a lot of effort, wisdom, patience, and help in order for the marriage to work. The truth of the matter is that nothing works without you working it. This is why the two players in the Marriage must be willing to make things work. As you can see from our text scripture, it takes agreement for two people to walk together. A marriage can be healthy or unhealthy! If a marriage is unhealthy, you can know. This is true because of certain signs or Indicators that you can see. So what are the signs that will show to you that things are not working well in your marriage? These are the things that I will be sharing with you in this series of lessons. And you need to pay attention to these things if you will save your marriage from destruction.
SIGNS OF AN UNHEALTHY MARRIAGE:
1. You are no longer chasing one another. It means that your love has gone cold. You are no longer wooing each other. The truth of the matter is that we are never to stop chasing after one another if we truly love each other. So my dear reader, what can you say about your love for your partner? Is it growing cold or getting better? (Gen.26v8)
2. You are no longer communicating with one another. Or it might even be that you can’t seem to communicate with each other. This is one of the red flags to watch out for in a Troubled Relationship. So how would you describe your communication level with your partner? Are you still sharing, talking, and having meaningful conversations with each other? The answer you give to these questions will tell whether things are well with your Marriage or not. So make up your mind to address this matter as much as possible because the well-being of your marriage depends on it.
3. You are no longer spending quality time together. A couple must spend quality time together as this helps in bonding and strengthening the marriage. Great lovers desire and seek the company of each other, so do you still long for the company of your spouse? No matter the exigencies of life or issues of life, you ought to have time for your spouse! If you are not spending quality time with your partner, then who and what is taking your time? Nature cannot condone vacuum! So it’s important you sort this issue out in order for peace to return to your home (Gen.2v18).
4. You are no longer intimate with your spouse. Intimacy is one of the glues that binds a relationship together. Intimacy involves hugging, kissing, holding hands, sex etc. According to a recent survey that I saw somewhere, about 12% of Marriages are Sexless. So how would you describe the intimacy between you and your spouse? Is it strong or weak or even non-existent? (Pro.5v18-20). Whatever the state of your intimacy with your partner, do you know that God is able to bring about a turnaround but are you willing to allow him to help you? I pray that today will mark a new beginning in your Marital Life in Jesus name, amen.
