2Ki.6v25: And there was a great famine in Samaria; and indeed they besieged it until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver and one-fourth of a kab of dove droppings for five shekels of silver.

7v1, 16: Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord; ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria”. Then the people went out and plundered the tents of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

How do you prosper in a time of crisis? This is what this series of lessons is set to address and I am sure you will be greatly blessed and empowered via these teachings. There is no doubt that we are living in a time of crisis but God has not left us without a way out (Isa.48v17). From the story in our text scripture(s), it’s apparent that God knows how to prosper His children in a time of crisis. The same God that did it for the children of Israel then will do much more for you too because you have a better covenant based on better promises. My dear reader, I want you to know that there is a God who can prosper you regardless of the circumstance of life.

Now, what do we mean by a crisis? It’s a time of intense difficulty or danger. Crisis times are times of testing or an emergency event. The word crisis is derived from the Greek word ‘krisis’ which means ‘turning point in a disease.’ At such moment, the person with the disease could get better or worse; it’s a critical moment. This is what a time of crisis is all about and such is the kind of times we live in today. But glory be to God, it’s possible to prosper in such a time as this.

You can prosper and I believe you will prosper in this season. What is the assurance that this is possible? I’ll like to share with you 2 potent assurances of prospering in this season:

  • The testimony of the Scriptures. The word of God is filled with promises of how God prospered His people in a time of crisis and these promises give us the assurance and hope that God is too faithful to fail. Therefore, you can be rest assured that He will take good care of you in this season (Ps.37v39).
  • The testimony of those who have prospered in a time of crisis. We have testimonies of men and women that God lifted and helped in a time of crisis. If they can prosper, then you too can prosper. The same God that made it happen for them will do the same for you in Jesus name, amen (1Ki.17v2, 9, 16). Your heavenly father will not allow you to be put to shame; so be strong and courageous.

Dearly beloved, this is not the time to cry but the time to manifest courage. It’s not the time to be silent but to be strong. It’s not the time to surrender but the time to stand out. Be encouraged, for surely you will overcome this season in Jesus name, amen.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I thank you for being my helper and lifter in the time of trouble.

CONFESSION: I am never alone in the time of crisis. My Heavenly Father is my source and sufficiency. He is my shepherd and supply. Therefore, I will not be put to shame. My supplier shall never run out because my God knows how to prosper me in a time of crisis. Glory be to God, for His grace abounds richly unto me in Jesus name, amen.
