Psalm 4:1-2: I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad

One thing that is clear from the Scriptures is how we ought to do things. God obviously does not want us to do things anyhow but according to the way He has prescribed (1Cor.14:40; 1Chro.15:13). When it comes to how to praise Him, there are right ways and wrong ways of magnifying His name. Now, our focus is to praise Him in the way He wants to be praised, so that our sacrifice of praise won’t be in vain. King David once again shows us by example how we ought to praise our King in (Psalm 34:1-2) and since he was a great worshipper, he certainly knew how to praise.

So, how are you supposed to praise the King of Kings? You ought to render your praise to Him in the following manner:

  • Deliberately or intentionally. You ought to be deliberate about your praise. I mean, praise is something you do on purpose or by an act of your will. This is what David did in Psalm 34:1 where he said, “I will bless the Lord at all times.” Notice the words ‘I will’. This simply means he was intentional about his praise. You need to be intentional about your praise too (Psalm 69:30).
  • With the totality of your being. By this, I mean with all your being i.e. spirit, soul and body. You see this once again in David’s praise in Psalm 34:1-2) i.e. I = spirit man, my mouth = body, my soul = soul). It’s time for you too to put the totality of your being into your praise (Psalm 111:1).
  • Without any reservation or restrictions. By this, I mean you ought to praise God, without holding anything or yourself back. Are you ready to praise your King in this manner? (Psalm 54:6).
  • Extravagantly. You ought to lavish your praise on Him. God expects you not to be economical with your praise of Him but excessive with your praise. Are you willing to lavish your praise on Him? (2 Samuel 6:13).
  • By faith. Anyone can praise Him when the going is good but it takes faith to praise God when there is nothing. You ought to praise God before or ahead of any physical manifestation for this the way to praise Him. Are you ready to thank God in advance? (Romans 4:20).

My dear reader, I believe your faith is stirred today to praise God in the right manner. May you encounter God in a new dimension as you praise him from today.
