Pro.25v4: “Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewellery.”
Beloved, no matter your current level of profitability, it can get better. You can be more valuable as a person. This has been the focus of our discussion. Your value can go up and should go up as you can see in (Pro.25v4) and I have been sharing with you the things that can raise your value. Today by His grace, I’ll like us to look at another key element.
Ways of increasing your value:
- Increasing your competence levels. Yes, increasing your level of competence helps in increasing your value. The more competent you are, the greater your measure of value or the more valuable you become. How competent are you? How well do you do what you do? You can’t hide your competence, for it shows in whatever you do, what you say and how you do things! I want you to consider the following examples of highly competent people:
- Daniel was a highly competent person. No wonder he was extremely valuable in Babylon (Dan.6v3).
- David was a highly competent person. No wonder he was relevant in the reign of Saul and also as a king himself (1Sam.16v18).
- The virtuous woman in (Pro.31v10, 29) was also a highly competent person. No wonder she stood out in her generation.
By the way, what is competence? It is the ability to do something successfully or efficiently. It is the ability to do something well. It’s from the word compete, meaning someone whose competency is good enough to compete with other candidates. It’s time to become more competent as an individual. How can you increase your competence level? You can do this by:
- Getting the relevant trainings/skills. The more highly skilled you become, the more competent you become and the more valuable you will become. So, what are the areas you need to get more skilled? (Acts 18v24-28)
- Walking with people who are better than you. As you walk with highly competent people, you stand the chance of becoming like them because you become like those you closely associate with. Who are you hanging out with? (2Sam.21v18-22).
- Constantly developing yourself. You do this by learning, relearning and unlearning from time to time. Learning offers you the opportunity to grow which ultimately leads to an increase in your value (Pro.4v5). Have you learnt anything new today?
My dearly beloved ones, now is the time to increase your competence levels. Now is the time to increase your value! May this change start with you today.

110. HOW TO INCREASE YOUR VALUE 6
I believe you have been finding our discourse on increasing your value interesting and also of a great blessing to your personal and professional life. I shared 2 key elements in increasing your degree of usefulness and today by His grace, I intent to share another important element with you. So, here we go!
Ways of increasing your value:
- Increasing your focus level. How focused are you? Valuable people are people of focus! The more focused you become, the more valuable you become. You need to avoid distraction if you will really become valuable (Lk.9v62). You can’t be valuable if you are a Jack-of-all-trades. Those who are extremely valuable focus. See what I mean by the following checklist:
- Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour was highly focused on his mission here! (Jn.4v34).
- Paul was highly focused on his mission too (Phil.3v13-14).
- Mother Teresa was highly focused on helping the needy and downtrodden.
- Kenneth E. Hagin was highly focused on the message of faith.
So, if you too will become more valuable, you need to work on your focus levels and how can you achieve this? You can achieve this by:
- Focusing on the things you do well and not on the things you don’t do well. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses (Philem.1v6).
- Focusing on the things that are important to you not on urgent things. Focus on the things that are of priority to you, not on frivolous things (1Cor.6v12).
- Focusing on the things you have been called to do and not on things that are not your primary assignment. You need to remember that you can’t do everything (1Cor.7v20).
- Focusing on being a specialist and not a generalist. Focus on specialization not on general practice (1Ki.7v13-14).
My dear reader, what are you focused on? What things occupies your centre of interest and activities? It’s time to give attention to the things that matter. It’s time to concentrate your energies and resources on the right things. It’s time to increase your focus levels.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I choose to do the things that will increase my focus levels and not on the things that will break my focus. Holy Spirit, help me to keep my focus right.
CONFESSION: I choose to focus on the right things and not on the wrong things. I am committed to the things that increases my focus. I am sold out to increasing my focus. I refuse to be distracted or led astray. As I strive to keep and increase my focus, my degree of usefulness goes to another level. My eyes are on the Lord and His glory. Therefore, I will never be put to shame in Jesus name, amen.
