Ps.5v12: Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.
According to Ps.5v12, favour is the heritage of the righteous and the evidence of the blessing. If you are truly blessed by the Lord, you will be favoured. Thus, the favour of the Lord is part of your inheritance as a believer and it’s something that should be evident in your life. You need to have this understanding as a child of God that favour belongs to you. The evidence of this truth is shown in the lives of covenant people like Joseph, David, Daniel, Esther etc. If this was a reality in their lives, your life should not be an exception! Lk.1v28, 30; Dan.1v9.
What is God’s favour? It’s the undeserved kindness or unmerited grace of God. It means the help, assistance or support of God. It’s a kind of special advantage or privilege. It means for God to be biased towards you. It also means leniency, endorsement or special liking or consideration. God’s favour also means special prominence or to prefer someone above others. When God favours you, it means for you to be served first even though it might not go round. These are just some of the meanings of favour and this is how you need to see God’s favour towards you.
My dearly beloved, as someone who is favoured by God, what should you expect of God’s favour? As a believer, you need to expect God’s favour:
- From places and people you least imagined or expected. This is one of the ways God’s favour manifests in the life of His children. This was what happened in the life of Mordecai (Hamman i.e. the enemy of God’s people, ended up being the one that paraded Mordecai around the city in the King’s chariot (Esther 6v12). My dear reader, don’t be surprised when your haters and enemies become your helpers and partners.
- From places and people that matter. This is another way God manifests His favour towards His children. He uses men and women of influence to favour them and I see this happening in your life also. For example; Joseph (Potiphar (Gen.39v4), keeper of the prison (Gen.39v21) and Pharaoh (Gen.40v38-39).
- For things you do not qualify for. This is how God’s favour operates. God’s favour will give you things you don’t merit or deserve. This is what you see in operation in the life of Esther (i.e. a foreigner, orphan and poor girl) becoming the queen of the most powerful empire back then. In the same vein, I want you to expect God’s favour to elevate you to such heights as a child of God (Esth.2v7).
My dear reader, I want you to begin to lay hold of and also appropriate this blessing because it’s your heritage as someone favoured by God. Go forth with this understanding from today for this is your heritage in Christ.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I appropriate, today, by faith, the outworking of your favour in my life in Jesus name, amen.
CONFESSION: God’s favour is my heritage. Therefore, favour attends to me in all my ways. I find favour before God and man. I find favour everywhere I go. Doors are opening unto me because I am favoured of the Lord. My enemies are my well-wishers because I am God’s favourite child. Glory be to God, His favour speaks powerfully in my life and endeavours!
