Psalm 92verse12 ‘The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon’

God is very intentional about what he compares or likens us to in the scriptures. Whatever he likens us to is what he expects us to be. In our text scripture (Ps92v12), we are compared to a palm and cedar tree. My focus today will be on the palm tree. So, in other words, God wants us to flourish the way a palm tree flourishes. The word flourish is an interesting word and it basically means the following:

-To blossom or bloom, to spread, to grow, to fly, to break out or break forth, to spring forth, etc.

This is how our lives ought to be as a believer. In order to understand deeper what it means to flourish like the Palm Tree, you need to understand the qualities or characteristics of a palm tree. So what are the distinguishing features of a palm tree and what makes it unique? As I share some of these qualities with you today, I want you to also begin to see yourself in the light of these truths because this is who you are as far as God is concerned.

QUALITIES OF A PALM TREE:

1. They grow very tall and straight, sometimes up to 90feet tall.

2. They can withstand severe weather conditions such as monsoons, hurricanes, etc. They flourish regardless of the conditions; this is how you ought to flourish too.

3. They bear fruit for a very long time. Sometimes up to over 100 years. Ps92v14

4. They are highly profitable and useful. There is hardly any part of it that is not useful. This is how God also wants you to be. Jb22v2: Philip2v19-22

5. They have a secured root system. This is what makes it difficult for it to be easily uprooted. This is how God wants you also to be. So strong that no storm of life can easily blow you away. Matt7v24-27

6. They live very long. Sometimes up to over 100 years.

7. They are evergreen. This is how God wants you also to be i.e., lively and full of life. Ps1v1-3

Dearly Beloved, basically a palm tree is a symbol of Fruitfulness, Uprightness, Steadfastness, Healthiness, and Longevity! This is who God has made you to be and it’s high time you began to see yourself from this point because you cannot become what you refuse to believe and appropriate for yourself. So make up your mind from today that you will begin to flourish like a Palm Tree.
