Proverbs 5verse18-20: ‘Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, and be embraced in the arms of a seductress.’
How would you describe your relationship with your spouse? Is it normal, casual, ideal, strained, vibrant, excellent, or bad? Of course, people have different kinds of relationships with their spouses, but as you can see from our text scripture in Proverbs 5 verses 18-20, God wants you to have a wonderful and excellent relationship with your spouse. He wants a healthy relationship with your spouse! He expects you to Rejoice and be satisfied with your spouse. This is God’s ultimate plan for you. That is why we are talking about a healthy marriage! The word healthy means sound, strong, wholesome, hale, well, full of strength and vigor, and freedom from sickness or disease. These are some of the expectations of God concerning your marriage (Eccle.9v9). I guess you are wondering, is it possible to attain such standards in my marriage? The answer is a definite Yes! God certainly wants the best for your marriage and you should not settle for anything less than this! So, my dear reader, you need to make a healthy marriage your priority and desire too!
But to achieve a healthy relationship with your spouse. There are certain truths you need to know about a Healthy Marriage.
TRUTHS ABOUT HEALTHY MARRIAGE:
- It’s not Accidental or Coincidental. A sound marriage won’t just happen like that. It’s not something you just wish for or dream about but it’s something you need to work out! A healthy marriage is a result of work. This is the price you need to pay to have a beautiful marriage! A blessed marriage is a result of hard work and efforts on the path of the partners! Are you ready for such a kind of demand? (Philip.2v12). It’s time for you to be Intentional about your Marriage! May the change start Today!
- It’s an Ongoing Work & Process! It’s not a one-off event! A healthy marriage is a constant work in progress! You never get to a point where you stop working on your Marriage! It’s something you keep on doing, i.e. day in day out. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. This is the kind of investment you need to make into your Marriage! You must never get to a point where you stop working on your marriage. So are you ready to commit yourself to your marriage? As you give yourself to making your marriage strong, things will begin to get better in Jesus name, amen (Eccle.11v6).
- It’s not based on Expectations but on Certain Principles. A healthy marriage is based on following certain principles or procedures! There are certain things that you need to do and be if your marriage will be strong! Without these principles in place, it’s going to be difficult to make your marriage strong. One thing about principles is that they are no respecter of persons; they just work for those who obey them! Just like the principle or law of electricity will work for you when you obey it. In the same vein, these principles will make your marriage healthy and strong (Acts 2v37).
My dear brothers and sisters, I believe that as you make up your mind to work these principles, your marriage will experience a Revival and change for the better in Jesus name, amen.
