Genesis 11verse1-6:  ‘Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly”. They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth”. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the son’s men had built. And the Lord said, “indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.’

What makes a team work together? What makes a team a team indeed? These are some of the things I have been sharing with you in this series of lessons. I hope you are being blessed and lifted. I have so far shared five powerful principles that can help you to function effectively in any team. Today by his grace, I will be sharing another important principle with you. So off we go!

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WORK TOGETHER?

  1. Diligence. Without diligence, no team can work together effectively (Pro.22v29). So what kind of team members are you? Are you the lazy or diligent type? You need to know that you need to be willing to work if your team will succeed.

So what kind of worker are you supposed to be for your team to succeed in working together?

  1. A Willing Worker. To succeed in any team operations, you must be a worker who is willing and ready to work. If you are the type that has to be begged or encouraged to work, then nothing much will be accomplished (Pro.31v10, 13).
  1. A Tireless Worker. You must be the kind of worker like this if you will succeed in working with others. A Tireless worker is someone who never gets tired easily. They work around the clock and persevere in their work (Col.1v29).
  1. A Sacrificial Worker. They are Selfless and self-sacrificing in nature. This is how they work and this is how God expects you to work too. This is how the likes of Apostle Paul and Nehemiah worked and when you follow their footsteps, you can never go wrong (Rom.16v3-4).
  1. A Hard Worker. A Diligent worker is someone who works hard at their job or assignment. They work their socks out. This is the kind of worker you need to be if you succeed in working with your fellow workers. There is dignity in labor and it’s time for you to be committed to your work like this (1 Cor.15v10).
  1. A Wholehearted Worker. A diligent worker works with all their hearts. They put their hearts, soul, strength, etc., into whatever they are doing. They are sold out to the work. They are not the kind of people who work with half of their hearts, but the whole of their hearts. This is how you, too, ought to work in any team you may be serving now (Eccle.9v10).
  1. An Early Worker. A Diligent worker is also punctual to work. They don’t waste time or delay in doing their work. They are early to work because they understand that punctuality is the soul of Business. Are you early or late to work? It’s time for you to take your work more seriously by working early and on time. You will surely see the positive effects it will have on your team as you do so from today (Jn.9v4).
  1. A Cooperative Worker. A diligent worker also loves to work with others. They don’t just work alone but also take pleasure in working with others. They are willing to network with others. They know how to cooperate and collaborate with others. This is such a plus factor to any team and this is how you too ought to work if you will succeed in your team operations (Col.4v11).

My dear brothers and sisters, diligence pays off in any endeavour in life, most especially in working with others. This is one of the secrets of ants. They are a very industrious and diligent bunch of insects. You will see that they are always diligent in the way they go about their business. This is how you ought to work. I pray that a new spirit of Diligence will come upon you today!
