Gen.11v1-6: Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly”. They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth”. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the son’s men had built. And the Lord said, “indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

It’s possible to work together as a team regardless of your tribe, colour, age or gender. The most important thing is for you to be aware of the principles that make working together possible. This is what I have been sharing with you in this series of teachings. I believe you are being blessed and today, by his special grace, we will look at another important requirement in working together as a team. So if you are ready, here we go?

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WORK TOGETHER?

  1. Trust. Without trust, we will find it difficult to work together as a team because trust is the foundation of any meaningful relationship. Trust is belief in your employees or people you work with. Trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair. You can build, lose or regain trust. Trust is power. This is why you really need this essential quality in your team if you will be successful in working together. So make up your mind to deal with any form of distrust or mistrust because this will be harmful to your team’s chemistry.

So what makes Trust Possible in a team? Trust is made possible:

By being sincere and honest. Are you open and transparent with your fellow team members? If not, this will ruin your chances of achieving Teamwork. So do away with every form of lying and deceit as much as possible (Col.3v9).

By keeping your promises. Let your words and actions agree. Be a man or woman of your words. Let your words be your bond and let them mean something to you and your team members. This will greatly help you in achieving Teamwork (Ps.15v4).

By being faithful and loyal. Are you totally reliable and completely dependable? Can you be trusted with power, position, people, secret information etc.? Not everyone can be trusted. The more you can trust each other, the more ability our abilities to work together. So, my dear reader, I hope you can see why you need to work at this important quality (Pro.20v6).

By loving each other sincerely. Love makes trust possible. If you truly love someone, you would not want to disappoint or hurt them. So how much do you love your team members? (Jn.21v15-17)

By being willing to connect with others. Trust is never developed from a distance but by building relationships. This is why it takes time to build trust in our teams and in one another. No trust! No Team! (1Sam.22v1-2)

My dearly beloved ones, I believe you can see the importance of developing trust in our teams if we are ever going to work together smoothly. So it’s time to embrace the culture of Trust in our lives.

Prayer for Today: Precious Holy Spirit, help me Imbibe the culture of Trust in all my operations and dealings in Jesus name, amen.

CONFESSION: I say yes to Trust and say no to Distrust. I choose to walk in honesty and truth with my fellow team members. I choose to speak the truth always. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. My word is my bond and oath. As I embrace the culture of Trust, I am becoming a better team player in my team. Glory be to God, it’s a new day for me.
