Pro.26v2: Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying shallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.
There is no curse without a cause! There are no consequences without action! In the same vein, there are reasons why things may not be working and why things are working. The essence of this series of teachings is to explain why things are not working, i.e., to identify the root cause of the problem and fix it. A quick look at our text scripture (Pro.26v2) in some other translations will reveal that nothing just happens; things are made to happen. Check this out:
“An underserved curse does not come to rest”- New International Version.
“An underserved curse will not land on its intended victim”- New Living Translation.
“Curses cannot hurt you unless you deserve them. They are like birds that fly by and never light”- Good News Translation.
“Don’t worry when someone curses you for no reason. Nothing bad will happen; such words are like birds that fly past and never stop”- English Revised Version.
As you can see from the above translations, it’s clear that curses don’t just perch on someone without a reason.
My dear reader, so why are things not working? From experience and counseling over the years, I have been able to identify some reasons why things may not be working in a man’s life. I want us to examine some of these reasons right away!
REASONS WHY THINGS ARE NOT WORKING:
- Disobedience. This is when you choose to ignore the dictates, leading, and the will of God. It also means refusing to comply with the instructions of God (Pro.13v13). I have discovered that disobedience increases our frustration and also makes things more difficult. If you doubt what I am talking about, look at the life of King Saul (1 Sam.13v8: 15v22) and also the life of Jonah (Jo.1v1-15). The disobedience of these people made their lives unbearable and very challenging. This is what happens when you are not obeying God fully. My dear beloved ones, are you where you ought to be? Are you doing what he has commanded? The answers you give to this question will tell where you stand in the journey of obedience. When it comes to obedience, what kind of person are you, and what kind of obedience are you practicing? Are you:
- Walking in the permissive will of God. This is when you choose to obey God in parts and not fully (1 Sam.15v13-16).
- Walking in the precise will of God. This is doing exactly what God wants for your life. Are you following his purpose for your life? (Jer.1v5)
- Walking in the perfect will of God. This is the best place to be, for this means to be in the center of God’s will for your life (Rom.12v2).
- Walking in the preferred will of God. This is to operate in the general will of God for every one of his children (2Pet.3v9).
It’s time to retrace our steps and return to God’s will and submission. Doing this will guarantee you success and glory.

Prayer for Today: Blessed Holy Spirit, open my eyes to seeing why things are not working and the courage to make the necessary changes in Jesus’ name, amen.
CONFESSION: I refuse to walk by assumption or presumption; instead, I walk by revelation and the truth of God’s Word. Therefore, I walk in the light and not darkness. I seek to know and understand why things are not working. Glory be to God; his wisdom and knowledge are made manifest unto me. My days of struggling are over. My days of winning and triumphing are here. As I walk in the truth, my life and work are getting better and better in Jesus’ name, amen.
