Gen.2v18-23: “And the Lord God said, it is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the field. But for Adam, there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said; this is now bone of my bones; and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
It’s apparent from our text scripture that there are certain needs in the life of a man and woman that God wants to meet in marriage. Until Eve came along, Adam was alone and until Adam met Eve, certain things were amiss in his life. In the same vein, God has designed that through marriage, the needs of your spouse should be met. So, to what extent are you meeting the needs of your spouse? It’s important for you to know that if you are married, you can’t afford to ignore or dismiss the needs of each other. Yes, the needs of a husband are quite different from that of a wife, but more importantly, both are equally relevant and needful. The more you give attention to these needs, the greater the peace and harmony in your home.
In this lesson, we shall be looking at some of the legitimate needs of a woman that a husband should know and strive to meet. As a husband, your wife has the following needs:
- Need for affection, so it’s important to show her affection (Gen.29v20).
- Need for romance, so it’s important to be romantic (Gen.26v8).
- Need for attention, so it’s important to give her your attention (Gen.21v9-12)
- Need for understanding, so it’s important to know your wife (Pro.31v10-11)
- Need for support/care, so it’s important to support/care for your wife (1Sam.1v5, 8).
- Need for fellowship/conversation, so it’s important to talk with your wife.
- Need for security/protection, so it’s important to protect your wife.
- Need for commitment, so it’s important to commit your wife (Gen.2v24).
- Need for partnership, so it’s important to partner with your wife.
- Need for appreciation/value, so it’s important to appreciate/value your wife (Pro.31v28-29).
Now, to what extent are you meeting the needs of your wife as the head of your home? How will you score yourself? Are you doing well or poorly? The answers you give to these questions will determine where you are with regard to meeting the needs of your wife. I, therefore, charge and encourage you today to start paying attention to the needs of your wife, so that your marriage can be stronger and better.
