Romams13verse7: ‘Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.’

According to our scripture (Romans 13 verse 7), we ought to give every man or woman due respect. This ought to be so also in marriage. Respecting your spouse should be paramount to you as a person. Respecting your spouse involves treating your partner with dignity and consideration and valuing their opinions and emotions. It also involves making them feel heard, appreciated, and supported. Whenever there are issues of disrespect, they ought to be handled properly so as not to put your relationship at great risk. So, what are some of the ways we disrespect our spouses? (This is a continuation of our discussion from the last lesson).

SIGNS OF DISRESPECT:

16. Feeling dispensable.

17. Using your partner.

18. Sharing their secrets and gossiping about them.

19. Hiding things from them.

20. Not caring about their well-being.

21. Taking them for granted.

22. By comparing them with other people.

23. Not respecting their opinions.

24. By not listening when they talk.

25. By dismissing their needs.

26. By being rude to them.

27. By ignoring them.

28. By calling them names.

29. Derogatory speech

30. Disrespectful personal habits, i.e. abuse or violence.

These are just some of the common ways through which we disrespect our spouses. So, my dear friends, it’s time for you to begin to respect your spouse like you ought to in Jesus name, amen.

Prayer for Today: Holy Spirit, help me to grow in my respect for my partner more and more in Jesus’ name, amen.

CONFESSION: This is my declaration of respect that I would respect myself as well as my spouse. I would respect my vows and marriage. I would respect the things that my spouse values and cherishes! So help me, God!
