You are welcome back to our discourse on knowing who we are in Christ and so far, I have shared some discoveries about our true status in Christ. I do believe that these truths are helping you in every possible way. Today by His grace, we shall be looking at some other powerful truths about our identity in Christ, which are:

  • You are an heir of God (Romans 8:17). This is your new status as a believer. But, who is an heir?
  • An heir is a sharer by lot i.e. inheritor, a possessor, someone who gets something by apportionment. As an heir of God, you have an allotted possession in Christ. This means certain things have been given to you by virtue of being a believer. You are a recipient of God’s inheritance and riches by grace. Whatever belongs to God belongs to you. This means that the promises of God, His wisdom, treasures, blessings, counsel et cetera. are all yours. This is now your heritage and you need to appropriate this by faith by changing the way you see yourself. Are you willing to make this adjustment? (Gal.3:29; Colossians 1:12)
  • You are a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). This means you are a co-heir, fellow-heir, or heir together with Christ. This is your new status in Christ. What is the implication of this as a believer? It simply means:
  • You have equality of power with Christ. This means you have access to the same kind of power that Jesus had in his earthly work. So, you are not supposed to be at the mercy of the enemy because you have enough power to rule and dominate (Matthew 10:1).
  • You have equality of position with Christ. This means that you share the same position with Christ because you are now seated with Him in heavenly places. You have been exalted to an enviable position, so stop thinking like a commoner or a nobody. Embrace, by faith, your new status in Christ (Ephesians 2:6).
  • You have equality of possession with Christ. This means that what belongs to Christ now belongs to you too. You now have access to the same things that Christ had access to as a joint-heir. So, when are you going to start accessing what belongs to you? (Col.2:15)

Prayer for Today: Father God, I thank you for making me an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ. I appropriate and receive all that it stands for in Jesus name, amen.

CONFESSION: I am an inheritor and possessor of God. I am a beneficiary of God’s inheritance. I inherit and possess all that my heavenly father has laid up for me by faith. I am a fellow-heir with Christ. I share in his dominion and authority. Christ is my covenant brother and I share in His power, position, and possessions. His riches and provisions are mine and they are for my enjoyment and lifting. Glory be to God in the highest.
