Ps.77v7-9: Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favourable no more? Has his mercy ceased forever? Has his promise failed forevermore? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.

Have you ever passed through a time or season in your life when it looks like God is far away or has forgotten you? I believe that you have been there before, and believe me, you are not alone too. This is the same thing the Psalmist was expressing in (Ps.77v7-9). Hence, the reason why he was asking all those questions too! My dearly beloved ones, you are not the only person to feel like this, neither will you be the last person, but cheer up for there is hope for you, for I believe God will be speaking to this area of needs in your life through these teachings in Jesus name, amen. When God seems distant also means when it looks like nothing is happening or God is silent or quiet concerning certain aspects of our lives.

When we look at scriptures, we have some examples of men/women who also felt like God was distant or silent concerning the matters of their lives. Some examples of such includes:

  • The times that Hannah had to wait for the blessing of the fruit of the womb (1Sam.1v1-6).
  • The period that Rachel had to wait for the blessing of a child (Gen.30v1-2).
  • The years the children of Israel were in captivity in Egypt before their deliverance (Exo.2V23-25).

However, my dear reader, there are certain truths that you need to know with regards to this concept of when God seems distant. These truths will help you to understand certain things about the nature or character of God, and they are as follows:

i. God can’t forget his people. Why is this so? This is because:

  • God is omniscient, i.e. he is all-knowing. He knows everything, including the tiniest details of your life (Isa.40v25-26).
  • God is omnipresent, i.e. he is everywhere at the same time. So his eyes are over you (Pro.15v3).
  • God’s memory never gets dull or weak. He has the best retentive memory you can think of. So, God remembering you does not mean you were out of his mind before, it just means your time of manifestation has come (Gen.8v1).

ii. God does not intentionally forsake his people. It’s never in his nature to do this deliberately (Ps.94v14). However, when this happens, it’s either:

  • Because of our own wrongdoing (Isa.59v1-2)
  • Because we don’t understand what is happening (Ps.82v5).

Glory be to God; this is why the Lord is sending his word to us today so that we can find succour and strength in dealing with such kind of circumstances in our lives. I firmly believe that things will begin to get better for you in Jesus name, amen.
