Joshua 1 verse 8: ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’
We all need help to certain degree or the other. And when it comes to Bible study there are certain things that can help or enhance your study of the Bible. These are the things we will be focusing on in today’s lesson. I believe that you are ready for this and so without much ado, let us dive into some of these things right away. 1Tim4v15.
- THE THINGS THAT WILL ENHANCE YOUR BIBLE STUDY
The following things will make your study of God’s word interesting and meaningful:
- Get the necessary study materials ready. Some of these materials include the following:
- A Reference Bible
- Notebook(s)
- Bible Concordance
- Hebrew and Greek Dictionary of the Bible
- English Dictionary
- Other Bible Translations
- Bible Encyclopedia(s) i.e. Maps, etc.
- Bible Commentaries i.e. Mathew Henry, Adam Clarke, Blue Letter Bible, Expositor’s Bible etc.
- Bible Softwares i.e. e-Sword, Logos Bible Software etc.
- Choose a convenient time and place for your study. Let it be a place where you won’t be easily distracted or disturbed. And also choose the best time i.e. the time you will be at your best. Mk1v35. These factors need to be put in consideration if you will enjoy Bible study.
- You need to be willing and eager to learn. Be a hungry student. The willingness and desire to understand God’s word should be in you otherwise it will be an exercise in futility. Matt5v6; Ps107v9. So how desirous or hungry are you?
- Depend on the Holy Spirit as your teacher, helper and guide. Jn14v26: 16v7, 12-15. Take him as your teacher. 1Jn2v20, 27. You can’t understand the Bible without his assistance and help. Trust me the Holy Spirit is the best person to teach you the word of God.
- Pray continuously in the spirit and understanding that God would open your eyes of understanding in order to comprehend his word. Eph1v18; Col1v9. You do this by praying before, during and after study of the Bible. Lk24v45; Pro2v1-6. My dear friends, this is an extremely important part that has to be in place if you really want to get the best out of your Bible study.
- You need to be willing to learn from others (especially those who have a better understanding of the scriptures). Nobody knows it all by themselves.
However it is also important to pay attention to the source from which you are learning from i.e. Be sure it’s sound, truthful and healthy doctrine, Acts18v24-28, 8v29: 19v9-10; 1Sam3v7-9.
- Be ready to test and prove all things. By all things I mean evey revelation, doctrine, teaching or word gotten from your study. Don’t run with what has not been tested and proven. Ps34v8; 1Thess5v21; Eph5v10; 1Jn4v1-3.
Are there any other things you know can enhance Bible Study?

Prayer for Today: Thank you Lord Jesus for these powerful insights and revelation.
CONFESSION: I receive with all my heart and mind these truths. I believe that as I put them into practice, my Bible study life will be greatly enriched and empowered. Thank you Jesus for my transformation has come!
