1Corinthians14verse40 ‘Let all things be done decently and in order’.
There are dos and don’t’s in any relationship, especially marital relationships i.e., marriage. The dos and don’ts simply mean that there are certain things you can and can’t do. The truth of the matter is that certain behaviors are not acceptable in marriage and vice versa also. If you want to enjoy your marriage, you need to be aware of these rules that govern marriage. Some of these acceptable codes of behavior in marriage are the things I will be discussing with you today. So if you are ready, let’s examine them right away.
1. Never compare your spouse to your friends or someone’s else husband or wife. This is one habit you must avoid in your marriage if you want a blissful marriage. My dear reader, never play the comparison game in marriage. You must always realize that everyone is unique and special. So make up your mind to appreciate the uniqueness and individuality of your spouse. Your wife can never be like your mum neither can your husband be like your dad. 2cor10v12
2. Don’t exalt your family or friends above your spouse. This is another important rule you must abide with in your marriage if you want it to succeed. Let your spouse come first. Don’t make your spouse number two or last. Let your spouse come first and prioritize your spouse above your family or friends. This is a pearl of important wisdom that will serve you well in your marriage. Gen2v24
3. Don’t prioritize your kids above your partner. We thank God for children, but let your spouse come first before your kids. You need to remember that without your spouse, there will be no kids; when your kids are gone, it will be you and your spouse. This is why you shouldn’t make the mistake of placing your kids over your spouse. Gen25v28
4. Avoid external interference as much as possible in your marriage. Too much cook spoils the broth. So limit third-party involvement in your marriage. If you need to talk to anyone at all, let it be a trusted and tested counselor or your pastor. Whatever issues you might have with your spouse should be resolved without external interference. So my dear brothers and sisters, avoid reporting your spouse to people outside your marriage. In this way, you will be preserving the sanctity of your marriage. Eccl9v9
So, my dear reader, it’s time for you to start living by the laws that govern successful marriage. I believe that today will usher you into a new season of change in Jesus name in your relational life.
