Psalm 75 verses 6 – 7: ‘- For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.’

We all love to be promoted, but promotion does not just happen like that. There are certain criteria for promotion. This is what this series of messages is all about. The word ‘Basis’ is an Interesting word. It means foundation, criteria, condition, or yardstick for something. In our last lesson, I shared with you one of the bases for promotion in any field of life. Today by his grace, I will proceed by sharing with you another powerful key for promotion. So, if you are ready, here we go.

CONDITIONS FOR PROMOTION:

2. Competence.

This is another major key to promotion in any endeavor of life. It’s not enough to do your work, but it’s more important to do it very well. This is very important if you really want to rise in life. Gen 39 v 11; 41 v 39

Competence means the following:

-The ability to do something successfully or efficiently.

-The ability to do something well.

-Your skill or ability in a specific field or subject. Dan 1v17

So dear friends, how competent are you? The more competent you are, the greater your promotion, and vice versa. This is why you need to take your level of competence more seriously.

So, what are the ways of improving and increasing your competence? There are many, but I would like us to consider a few today:

a. Make excellence your watchword. Never settle for mediocrity, but always strive for the best. Always seek to perform at a higher level of excellence. When you do so, you will be improving your level of competence. Dan 6 v 3

b. Show up when you are expected to. Show up every day, regardless of how you feel or the circumstances you may find yourself in. Don’t just show up in body but come ready to contribute your quota every day. This will make you become more competent at what you do. Ps 89 v 20

c. Do more than is expected. Don’t just do what you are told to do, but do more than you are told to do. Don’t just do the needful or minimum; go the extra mile. When you do such things as this, you will discover that your level of competence will grow. Rom 16 v 3 – 4

d. Be willing to learn and Improve. Never stop growing, but be open to new ways of doing things. Be willing to learn from others and also learn through observation. When you make yourself a student of learning, you will discover that it will raise your level of competence. Isa 55v8-9.

Dear Beloved, are you ready to raise your level of competence? I believe your answer is Yes. See you then by his grace in the land of great promotions!
