2Thessalonians 1 verse 3: ‘We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;’
Every living thing grows and since the force of faith is a living reality, it’s expected to grow also. Your faith is not supposed to be on the same level it was last year or even last month. It’s supposed to grow and develop. This is why I am sharing with you today how to grow or develop your faith. From our foundation Scripture (2Thessa 1 verse 3) it’s obvious that faith has levels and here Paul speaks of an Exceedingly growing faith. In Matthew’s gospel, you see little and great faith in manifestation (Matt 6 v 30; 8 v 10). From what we have seen so far, it’s clear that your faith can grow. So how do you go about developing your faith? What does it take to nurture this thing called FAITH? To develop your faith effectively, you should consider the following:
1. You must constantly feed your faith.
What is the food of faith? It’s the word of God! What food is to your body, that is what the word of God is to your faith. So, if you don’t feed well on the word of God, your faith won’t be strong enough! It’s as simple as this though many believers are yet to understand this principle. The Word of God is what will make my faith strong and healthy. Matt 4 v 4. This is why you need to feed regularly on the word. You need to feed fat and well on the word of God in order to have an effective faith life. My dear brothers and sisters, one thing about feeding on the word is that you can never overfeed yourself on it. It’s not Like sugar or salt that can be consumed too much. For the word of God, it can never be too much. The word of God doesn’t have any side effects. It only has positive effects and outcomes! So, make sure you take more seriously feeding on God’s word. Pro 4 v 20 – 22.
One important thing about what you eat or feed on is that you are what you eat or feed on. Mk 4 v 14. This is why you need to be selective on what you eat or feed on! The word of God is really good stuff and good news also. So, stay in God’s word regularly if you want to grow and develop your faith life. This is how to grow your faith and it’s something you can do by yourself; it is time to get busy. Pro 8 v 34.
However, there is an important part of feeding on God’s word that we need to address! And this is the question of how you feed on God’s word. There are several proven and tested ways of feeding on God’s word that I would like to share with you at this juncture.
WAYS OF FEEDING ON THE WORD:
a. By reading it. When you read God’s word, you are actually feeding on it. Isa 34 v 16. Endeavor to give time to the reading of his word.
b. By studying it. This is a bit different from reading in that you go deeper by investigating, evaluating, and examining the scriptures in detail. 2tim 2 v 15
c. Meditating on it. To Meditate means to think and speak. Meditating on God’s word is thinking about it and speaking it out. This is another means of feeding on God’s word. Ps 1 v 1 – 2. Doing this exercise will develop your faith tremendously. It’s time to get on this.
d. Listening to the word. Hearing God’s word, either by saying it or through preaching or teaching or even someone reciting it, is a powerful means of building up your faith. Rom 10 v 17. This is something that will make your faith grow stronger. I pray that you will imbibe this practice into your life from today and I guarantee you that your faith will get better and better as you do so.
Other scriptural references: Lk 8 v 18; 10 v 42: Jos 1 v 8: 1tim 4 v 13: Matt 8 v26; 15 v 28: Mk 10 v 47
Prayer for today: I commit myself to feed my faith with the word of God regularly in Jesus name, amen.
CONFESSION: The word of God is faith food for my Spirit man. Therefore, I embrace the word in its totality. As I feed on God’s word by reading, studying, meditating, and hearing the word, my faith is becoming stronger and better in Jesus’ name, amen. This is my testimony and experience!
