The Fundamental Obligations of Love 1

“Let all your things be done with charity.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

Love is one of the most misunderstood subjects in our world yet it is also the most powerful force in the universe. This is why our text scripture admonishes us to do everything we do in love as you can see from other translations below:

However, in order to walk in love like we ought to, you need to be aware of the fundamental obligations of love. These are the essentials or basic elements about love that you need to know about if you will succeed in your love walk. So what are these truths?

1. God Loves You

This is such a simple but powerful truth about love that you need to know. God loves you! Say this out: God loves me! Say it again! In fact you may need to say it again and again until it enters into your inner consciousness! This is one of most fundamental truths about love that you need to know without any iota of doubt. As a child of God, you are his beloved! Wow! Glory be to God!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”— John 3:16

My dear reader, do you know this? Do you even believe this? If you do, it will change your whole life forever! This is why I am praying that God will grant you a deeper revelation of his love for you! In case you are wondering how much God loves you, take a good look at the following:

• What Jesus did for you at Calvary (Romans 5:8)
• The Inheritance that you now have in Christ (1 Peter 1:4)
• The Privileges and Access that you now have in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)
• How God put an end to Satan’s Dominion over your life (Colossians 1:13, 2:15)
• The Place he has prepared for you In Paradise (John 14:1-3)

My dearly beloved, the list is endless but make no mistake about this, you are loved by God and there is nothing that you can do about that.

2. You Are Expected to Love God

If God so much loves you, then it’s not a big deal for you to love him. So do you love God and how much do you love him? I know that this may seem or look funny but it’s not everyone that reciprocates back God’s love. I hope that you are not one of such people.

My dear friends, the least you and I can do is to love God back in return for his Uncommon and Undying love. So what can you say about your love for God?

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” — Deuteronomy 6:4-5
