Daniel 1verse8 ‘But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.’

We make an average of 35000 decisions (i.e. if you are an adult) and your decision has a significant impact on your life, those connected to you and even generations yet unborn. This is why you can’t just be careless when making your decisions. There is an awesome power at your disposal when you make decisions and you need to know how to use it properly. Daniel understood the power of decision-making; this is why it worked out so well for him in Babylon. The singular decision he took when he got to Babylon shaped his life and impacted his destiny in a powerful way. This also can be your testimony if you start paying attention to your decisions.

My dear brothers and sisters, I have discovered that there are right and wrong reasons for making a decision and I would like, at this juncture, to share with you some of the wrong reasons why people make decisions. If you are ready for this, here we go:

1. Because it’s popular. My dear reader, the fact that something is popular doesn’t mean you should do it. It’s always better to get wisdom and counsel before making important decisions. Exo23v2

2. Because of how they are feeling. Your feelings are not always a reliable source for making decisions. Your feelings oscillate and it’s fickle in nature, so making a decision solely based on this would be wrong. Gen25v29-34

3. Because they are under pressure. As a general rule, never make life-changing decisions under duress or pressure. Because it carries a huge consequence most of the time.

4. Because your friends are doing it. You need to understand that this is not enough reason to do something. Everyone’s destiny is special and unique, so you have no business copying someone else. Pro1v10

5. Because they don’t have a choice. This is not true, as you do have a choice. Everyone has a choice and our choice carries great consequences. You need to always remember this. My dear reader, your decisions has both negative and positive implications. This is why you need to think before you make any decision. I trust that you have been blessed by today’s devotional. Join me in our next lesson for the continuation.
