Hebrews 11verse1,6 ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. V6-But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.’
You are welcome to our discussion on the basics of faith. I am sure you will be super blessed by this series of lessons. Faith is such an important part of our lives as believers. This is why you need to know about the basics of faith. As you can see from Hebrews11verse6 that it takes walking by faith to please God. So not living by faith, therefore, displeases God. Heb10v38. Living by faith is what God expects of you as his child (Gal3v11: Rom1v17). This is why you need to understand the basics of faith. The word basics means the essential facts or principles of a subject or skill. In other words, the fundamental, underlying, elementary or simple and necessary things about faith. This is what we will be considering in this series of teachings. By the way, the basics of anything are the most important aspects of that thing; without them, someone is not going anywhere. It’s just like learning to read and write without understanding the A, B, C etc. or 1, 2, 3 etc., for someone who will go far in learning or education. So the basics of faith are critical to your success in life.
However, before we start looking at these basics of faith, we must first understand what faith is.
SO WHAT IS FAITH?
1. Its confidence or assurance in the spoken word of God. It’s having unwavering confidence in what God has said or is saying to you. This is what faith is all about. The keywords here are confidence and the spoken word. So, my dear reader, faith is an unshakable trust in God. Therefore, a lack of confidence in God is a lack of faith. I like us to consider some things Apostle Paul said about faith in the following scriptures below:
Philippians 1v6-” Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you…………..”
Philippians 1v25-” And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all….”
If you notice, he uses the words confident and confidence, which is basically an expression of his faith in God.
Another way you can see this is by examining the Moffatts Translation of Hebrews11verse1, which says:
“Faith means that we are confident of what we hope for, convinced of what we do not see.”
So my dearly beloved friends, faith is all about having confidence in the spoken word of God to you. No confidence means no faith. While less confidence means less faith. So it’s time for you to start building your confidence in God via his word.
Did you also know that if you check the meaning of the word faith in Latin, it actually means confidence or trust in a person, thing or concept?
So it’s time to build up your confidence in God! May today mark the beginning of such an encounter in Jesus name, amen.
