Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Is it really important that I set goals? The answer is a definite Yes! In this teaching, I will be sharing some of the reasons why goal setting is a very important exercise that you need to be involved with. Even the great Apostle Paul was a goal-driven person, as you can see from our text scripture (Philip3v13-14). He had a particular goal in mind that he was working towards. When you study the epistles and even Acts of the Apostles, you will see clearly that Apostle Paul was truly a Man of goals. I strongly believe that God doesn’t want us to live a goalless life. If you require a plan to build a house, then you need a goal to build your Life. My dear reader, you need to set goals for every area of your life i.e. spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, financially, relationally, professionally, socially, e.t.c. Why is it important for you to set goals for yourself as a believer?

WHY SET GOALS?

1. It helps you take control of your Life. This is one of the blessings of setting goals. It takes you from the realm of being a floater or running from pillar to post without anything to show for it. My dear brothers and sisters, it’s time to take control of your life.

2. It helps you to overcome procrastination. This is one thing that has kept many people from fulfilling their dreams and aspirations in life. If you really want to beat and defeat this enemy of your destiny, you need to be a goal setter. Rom2v1. My dear reader, it’s time to put your excuses where it truly belongs, i.e., under your feet.

3. Its a fundamental key to success in life. I have discovered that hardly will you find any successful person who is not a Goal Setter and a Goal Getter. In fact, success can be defined as the progressive realization of worthwhile goals. If you don’t have any goals, it simply means you are not planning to achieve anything meaningful with your life. This is why you need to inculcate this concept of setting goals into your lifestyle. May today mark the beginning of such an encounter for you. 2Ki2v9-11

4. it helps you to measure your progress. This is why it’s so important to set goals in your life. A life of no goal is simply a life that is not going anywhere in particular. This is not the kind of life you want to live because there would be nothing challenging or propelling you to greater heights. So my dear reader, you need to seriously begin to set goals for every area of your life because goal setting helps you know whether you are really making progress or not in whatever you may be doing. Lk14v28-30

5. Helps you to stay motivated. You need motivation if you will ever fulfill your colourful destiny. One thing about motivation is that it’s never static; it can either go up or down. Setting goals for yourself is important because your goals will keep you motivated or put you on your toes. So when you set goals, you never go wrong. The people who built the tower of babel in Genesis 11verse 1-8 were motivated towards their goal; that was why it was impossible to stop them. This was why God had to confuse their language in order to stop the work. So my dear friend, your goals in life will keep you motivated and fired up. If you are not motivated enough, you might need to look at the goals that you have set for yourself for life. Num13v30

6. It helps you to determine what you want. Times in life, most people don’t know what they really want as they are often confused, undecided, or double-minded. But when you are a goal setter, it’s clear where you want to go, what you want to achieve and whom you want to become. Beloved, this is why you need to embrace the culture of setting goals. I trust that you will rise up to this challenge today in Jesus name, amen. Mk10v5

7. Helps you to live your best life. If you will ever realise your full potential, you will need to be a goal setter. Setting and pursuing your goals enables you to live your life fully. Do you know that there is more to you than what we see now? You are capable of doing much more if you will only challenge yourself. This is what goal setting will do for you, and this is why I encourage you to embrace this kind of life from today. 2Cor4v7
It’s time for you to experience the fullness of life that is available in Christ by embracing the culture of setting goals. I guarantee you that life will be more exciting and fulfilling as you do so. What are you waiting for? Start making goal setting an integral part of your life and work.
