Acts 1v8: But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
You are welcome back to our discussion on the subject of the power of your witness, as we can see from our text scripture in (Acts 1:8) that the believer possesses the power to witness. God wants you and I to be his witness from Jerusalem even to the outermost part of the world. We need to realize that this power of witnessing is something that God wants us to put to use. It’s one thing to have something; it’s another thing to put it to use. You need to be aware of the tremendous power of your witness; your witness makes certain things happen and even more importantly, your lack of witness is also causing certain things not to happen. This is why we need to take the power of our witnessing very seriously. I have been sharing with you some of the amazing things that will happen when you begin to take the power of your witness seriously. Your witness possesses certain kinds of powers and abilities and the earlier you know this, the better your witnessing will become. So what can my witness accomplish? Your witness can make the following things happen:
7. It brings glory to God and to his name. Many people, on account of Paul’s testimony or witness, gave glory to God. Not only did they give glory to God, but they were ultimately convicted and some even drawn to the saving power of Jesus. The same can also be said about the Samaritan Woman in John chapter 4 verses 39-42; you can see from her story that a lot of people gave glory to God and to his holy name because of the amazing transformation that took place in the life of the woman. In the same vein, God wants to be glorified in and through your testimony. This is why you need to take the power of your witnessing seriously so that God can be glorified through you to the world (Isa.43v21).
8. It can avert destruction or judgment over a people or a nation. This is the kind of power that your witnessing possesses. For instance, you can see in the story of Jonah when God sent him to Nineveh. Nineveh could have been destroyed if not for the witness of Jonah; God used his witnessing to bring about a turnaround in that nation, a nation that could have been wiped out or even destroyed, but due to God’s mercies, things were turned around for good. This is what the power of your witness can do when we rise up to our responsibilities as children of God and are willing to preach and share the good news of the kingdom. It can turn a curse into a blessing; it can avert God’s judgment or even destruction upon a nation. He’s still the same God; what he did in time past, he can do it again if only we will rise up to our responsibilities. So it’s time for you and me to stand up and be counted. It’s time for your light to shine. It’s time for the glory of God to be seen through your lives and your endeavours.
9. It can advance the kingdom of God. This is what your witness can do. Through your witness, heaven is populated while the kingdom of hell is depopulated. Whether you know it or not, your witness is a threat to the kingdom of Satan. When you and I are not witnessing, Satan is not threatened, but when we take our witnessing lifestyle seriously, the kingdom of hell and Satan is threatened because he knows that God will be gaining more grounds and taking new territories. So if you want to see the extension and the growth of God’s kingdom here on earth, then you need to take the power of your witnessing very seriously. So it’s time to rise up to this challenge. Enough of taking the back seat; it is time to occupy our place in destiny by becoming a living witness to our generation. I pray for you today that new courage and spirit will rise from within you as you begin to seriously and make your witness count in your generation in the name of Jesus (Matt.6v33).
Dearly beloved, it’s time to take your witnessing power seriously! It’s time to begin to use the power of your witness effectively! God can do a lot when you start paying attention to what he has given you. The more we exercise this power, the better it becomes in our hands, and the better you also become as his witness! Stop shying away from his power within you. Put it into use so that it can grow bigger and bigger. I pray that this will be your testimony and experience from henceforth in Jesus name, amen.
