Pro.13v22: A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.
Building lasting legacies is a serious business that our heavenly father wants us to be involved in and this is why you need to take the issue of building lasting legacies very seriously. As you can see from some of my previous lessons on this subject matter, you have to be deliberate and intentional about legacies. So what are you doing in this regard? If you will be successful in building enduring legacy, certain things must be put into place and these things will form the basis of our discussion today. So my dear reader, what does it take to build an enduring legacy? What are the things you need to put into consideration?
HOW TO BUILD A LASTING LEGACY
- Focus on living a significant life. What kind of life are you living? Are you living on the survival, success or significant level? I know most people start from the survival level, work their way up to the success level while only a few people aspire to the significant level in life. My dear reader, stop focusing on the survival level (i.e. souvenir dimension) or success level (i.e. trophies dimension). Instead, go for the significant level (i.e. legacies dimension). Focus more on being a blessing other than just being blessed (Pro.10v7). It’s far better to live a significant life than any other kind of life. So make up your mind from today, precious child of God, that you won’t settle for any kind of life. Henceforth, let your focus be on living a significant life, and I want to know that it’s possible to live such a kind of life. All you need to do is to change your focus. What do I mean by this? I mean:
- Focus on others and not yourself. Become other people minded instead of being self-centred. I tell you, one of the major problems of our World is selfishness. If you really want to live a life of significance, you need to start putting others into consideration and into your plans (1Cor.10v24). So in what little ways can you put others ahead of you?
- Focus on what you can give and not what you can get. Saint Frances of Assisi once said, “All getting separate you from others: All giving unites to others”. Are you a giver or getter? Life is measured by donation and not just by duration. Whom are you giving to? Into whom are you pouring your life? What are you giving back to your society or world? The answers you give to these questions will help you to know if you are a giver or not. So it’s time to become a giver. It’s time to be purposeful in your giving if you want to build a strong legacy (Matt.20v26-28).
- Focus on purposeful living. Concentrate on fulfilling the reason why you were made or created. This is how to live a significant life. Make sure you are really pursuing your purpose and not just chasing shadow. Many people are simply existing without living indeed. As you focus on living a life of purpose, you will be living a life of significance in that way (Pro.16v4). So it’s time to begin now! No one is rich until he enriches others. May your life truly count in your generation.

Prayer for Today: Holy Spirit, I seek to live a life of significance from henceforth. Help me to live accordingly in Jesus name, amen.
CONFESSION: Building a life of significance is my motto henceforth. I choose to live purposefully and not just anyhow. I choose to be other people-minded and not self-centered. I choose to be a giver and not a taker. I choose to render service via my time, resources, talent, and opportunities that the Lord has given me. I choose to do the good that I can do with what I have and where I am. This is my solemn vow and pledge in Jesus name, amen.
