Luke 12v16-21: “Then he spoke a parable to them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully and he thought within himself, saying, ‘what shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this; I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

I do hope you have been enjoying our discourse on putting God first in our lives. In our last lesson, I shared some of the basic knowledge you need to have in order to better understand the concept of putting God first. Today by His grace, I will be sharing the remaining truths you need to know about putting God first. So, here we go.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PUTTING GOD FIRST:

4. It is a testing action. Putting God first is a test of your faith and character and the truth of the matter is that our love for God will be tested. Deciding to honour God in your life will bring your values, commitment and love to the test. This was the same thing that happened to father Abraham in (Genesis 22v1-18). Since he was victorious by faith, you too will be victorious in Jesus name if you don’t cave in.
5. It’s a godly action. Putting God first is God’s will for your life. God desires to be number one in our lives. It is what He seeks and wants from every one of His children. Are you willing to surrender your life to him in totality? (Matthew 22v37).
6. It’s a continuous action. It’s something you have to do all the time because you and I are still works-in-progress. There are still areas of our lives that His will is not supreme due to our level of submission and yieldedness. So, the task of putting God first is an on-going process and it will get better if only you completely surrender to the Lord. Are your ready to co-operate fully with the Lord? (2Chronicles 26v5, 16).
