2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new
Do you know your identity in Christ? It’s shocking that many believers do not realize that they now have a new identity in Christ. According to (2Cor.5:17), you obtained a new identity in Christ when you got born again. So, you now have a new identity in Christ and the implication of this is as follows:
- You are not who people say you are
- You are not who the devil says you are
- You are not who the world says you are
- You are not who your background, culture or circumstance says you are.
- You are not who you think you are, but you are who God says you are.
This makes a whole lot of difference and it’s important for you to begin to see yourself the way God sees you.
In order to understand your new identity in Christ, you need to know what the term identity really means. Identity is who a person is or the qualities of a person or group that makes it different from others. So, your identity is who you are or what you really are and based on your new identity in Christ, you need to know that:
- Your past is dead. So, stop holding on to your past, because it doesn’t exist in God’s memory anymore (Micah 7:18-19).
- You now have a new beginning. Glory be to God; you now have a clean slate before God as a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- Your future is greater than your past. You now have an enviable future by virtue of your new identity in Christ and your tomorrow is better than today.
So, rejoice because you have been lifted up in Christ (Ephesians 2:6). Dearly beloved, it’s time for you to embrace your new identity in Christ and stop seeing yourself after your old sinful nature. May today be the beginning of such an encounter in Jesus name, amen.

CONFESSION: I am a new creation in Christ. I have a new identity in Christ for I am a brand new person in Christ. I am somebody and not a nobody. I am worthy in Christ; I am not worthless. I am an insider and no longer an outcast. I now belong and have a place in the family of God. Glory be to God, my identity has changed because I now belong to Christ and I am a partaker of his grace and mercy. Old things have passed away, behold all things are new!
